Andreas Kisser defended Sepultura 's creative freedom when commenting on the negative reactions from some fans to the band's recent experimentation on their latest EP, The Cloud of Unknowing.
In an interview with Metal Hammer España, the guitarist stated that he doesn't shape the creative process with the intention of pleasing all audiences. Andreas also highlighted the influence of drummer Greyson Nekrutman, who brought jazz references to the band's current sound.
“It’s not my problem that the fans are disappointed (laughs). They are different universes. The relationship that each person has with their art, with their music, is very personal and unique, and that’s okay. That’s the freedom of interpretation and connection. I’m discovering new things today that were recorded 40, 50, 60, 100 years ago. It’s contemporary because it’s new to the person discovering it,” said Andreas Kisser [via Whiplash].
During the interview, Andreas explained that heavy metal allows for endless creative possibilities. “We have endless possibilities, and Sepultura is an example of that, making heavy music with 'Roots,' which opened incredible doors, and 'Roots' also influenced Slipknot, for example […] We don't have to think about the fans when we're composing and expressing ourselves. It's a simple expression, and everyone will connect with it in their own free way,” he concluded.
Sepultura recently announced their final show of their career for November 7th at Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu in São Paulo, with opening acts Metal Allegiance, Sacred Reich , and Krisiun. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting May 30th at 10 AM on the Ticketmaster website and at the official box office at 11 AM.
