Andreas Kisser , guitarist for Sepultura , was asked about the most coherent political stance within the rock and metal scene. After all, does a rocker need to be left-wing or right-wing?

The issue generates intense debate among fans of the musical style, with some pointing out inconsistencies between fans of the genre and their alignment with the far right , while others argue that there is nothing wrong with being a headbanger and conservative .

During a conversation with Rafinha Bastos on the podcast Mais que 8 Minutos , the musician shared his views on the subject. “I think that’s untrue, this generalization that rock is left-wing isn’t true. The Ramones, for example, are super right-wing. The Ramones guitarist was an extremely right-wing guy,” he commented about Johnny Ramone , a self-proclaimed conservative patriot, in contrast to the revolutionary aspect of punk and his bandmates, such as vocalist Joey .

“I don’t see the connection between music and politics; they have nothing to do with each other,” he continued. “I’m in favor [of demonstrations] in any situation. If you have an idea, you have to have the freedom of expression to speak, but also the respect to listen. The problem today is that people don’t want to listen, or they only want to hear what they want to hear.”
