Knotfest.com 's Talk Toomey podcast , Andreas Kisser reflected on the recent death of Joey Jordison and recalled the loss of Paul Gray , stating that both were "big fans" of Sepultura and "too young to die."
Kisser had the opportunity to work with both of them in 2005 on the Roadrunner United , created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Roadrunner Records . The guitarist stated that Joey was a big Sepultura and made a comment about the song "Roots" that led to a new version of the song during the show (transcription via Blabbermouth ).
“It was me, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Dino Cazares , and Roy Mayorga , and we kind of organized the whole show,” Andreas recounts. “I played practically the whole show with Dino, and Joey and Paul were huge Sepultura fans; they knew everything about the band. We even changed the ending of 'Roots' at Joey's suggestion. He said, 'I love that part at the end where the music slows down, but it's too short. Let's make it longer.' And we did. It's a very special version of 'Roots,' of course, because we were all together and it was the last song of the show, representing all the historical significance of Sepultura and Roadrunner. And also a very special version because of him – because he wanted it to be different.”
Regarding Jordison and Paul Gray, Andreas Kisser commented: “They were too young to die. It’s very shocking. They were very creative, nice people, sweet, very easy to work with – they had great ideas and so on. It’s a great loss for all of us, but I will have great memories of them forever. They were a fantastic duo.”
