In 1993, Matos almost replaced Bruce Dickinson as the vocalist for Iron Maiden

Rolling Stone Brazil recalled the time when Andre Matos almost became the vocalist for Iron Maiden . As one of the great vocalists in the world of metal, he was considered to replace Bruce Dickinson when the Briton left the band in 1993.

In a 2014 interview, Matos explained why he wasn't called up:

"I was actually the first name considered for Iron Maiden after Bruce left, but, being a British band, there was resistance to having a Latino vocalist join the group," he revealed.

The vocalist said, however, that he wasn't bothered by the situation because of the prestige he had in the national metal scene. He confirmed that if they called him again, he would "accept with the greatest pleasure.".

The interesting thing is that, some time later, Matos met Blaze Bayley , who had secured the position at the time. The then-vocalist revealed a satisfying secret. "I met Blaze on the road and he told me that I should have joined Iron Maiden instead of him. I was very happy with his recognition," he said.

André Matos passed away this Saturday due to a heart attack .
