Megadeth guitarist spoke about the possibility of a reunion in a YouTube video.
Kiko Loureiro , guitarist for Megadeth and former Angra member , revealed that vocalist Andre Matos had given the green light for an Angra reunion. Matos passed away this Saturday (8), from a heart attack .
The incident reportedly occurred at Shaman in São Paulo. "Can you believe that last weekend, there was a Shaman show with Avantasia in São Paulo, and Paulo Baron , Angra's manager, was there. They talked, and for the first time in 20 years, Andre said, 'Man, I think it could be cool to come back and play if Kiko comes too.' And Baron called me this week telling me that," Kiko revealed on his YouTube channel.
“You know, it was quite an exciting deal, because throughout those 20 years – man, that’s probably your age, it’s a lifetime – he didn’t want to talk to anyone. And neither did I. Sometimes someone would send a message through a record label, a manager, Paulo Baron himself… commenting and asking Andre, and he would reply: ‘I’m never going to play with those guys again’,” he said.
“Everyone was going their separate ways, him with Shaman and us with Angra, a new lineup, so it wasn't something we were constantly trying to do, but the fans always asked for it and there was always that feeling, deep down, that one day we could do it, it would be cool to relive it, I think it's cool, but at the same time you're always thinking about the future, you've also developed and want to do your own thing, you're not just going to keep going back to the past and getting stuck in this dilemma,” Kiko stated.
“So, sometimes this conversation came up over these 20 years. I tried a few times, people tried, and Andre wasn't interested. And that was it. But it's incredible that, this week, he said he was working on it… he told Luis, who told me on the phone, that Andre had talked to him, trying to revisit his life's resentments, what had been kept inside, to work through it. It's a shame, because it would be nice to close a cycle 20 years later, to meet and talk,” he said.
