After 10 long years of waiting for new material, Evanescence is back. The band releases The Bitter Truth , their fifth studio album, this Friday, March 26th. For Amy Lee , the group's vocalist, the turbulent times the world is in couldn't be better for this return.

In an interview with Consequence of Sound , the singer explained that it takes "complete surrender" to the creation of the new project, but she didn't have detailed plans. "I had a son in 2014, Jack, and he's the most wonderful and happiest part of my life," the singer began. "But this time away definitely gave us a lot more fire and passionate energy to use right now in making The Bitter Truth ."

After the classic exploration on the album Synthesis (2014), which revisited the group's catalog alongside an orchestra, Amy explains that the band wanted to explore "a more raw place" in the new material. "I knew we wanted to turn the tables on this album and let the band really shine. With this lineup, this moment, and this era – we wanted to show who we are as a band."

Finally, the singer commented on the release of such a highly anticipated album in the midst of the pandemic. "It's a strange time, but it's the perfect timing. It makes complete sense that a new Evanescence album will finally be released during the end times!", she joked.
