Evanescence and Slipknot performance at the Mexican festival Knotfest Meets Forcefest was canceled due to security concerns. Apparently, the barricades broke during a previous performance and it wouldn't have been possible to repair them in time for the bands to take the stage. The cancellation of two of the biggest names on the setlist caused outrage among the audience, who stormed the stage and vandalized a lot of equipment, including Evanescence's drum kit.
In an interview with Cuartel Del Metal , Amy Lee spoke for the first time about the incident. “We were devastated long before anything caught fire,” the singer stated. “It was heartbreaking to have gone there [and not played]. We love Mexico, it’s very special [to play there].”
“We rehearsed for a week, we had everything planned. We were going to play the cover of 'The Chain' for the first time and everything. And then to be there, fully dressed and ready to go, and see the situation not unfold… The barricades weren't secure,” the singer recounts. “The fans were agitated and the more people moved throughout the night, the more the barricades gave way and they were hurting people. If we had gone on stage, people would have been hurt.”
