Alice In Chains: "We still make music that we care about"

Jerry Cantrell said the band still exists because they make "music that we care about."

In a new interview with Grammy.com Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell spoke about the rock genre. He said that Alice in Chains continues to make music that “we care about.”

According to him, “things are always changing. That’s the essence of existence and life. There are always changes happening. Nothing is static. Rock is going somewhere. Where, nobody knows. But as long as I’ve been alive, rock has always existed. And it has always spoken to me in a really powerful and visceral way. And not just rock, but music in general. Being a music artist, any genre,” he reflected.

“For some reason, after 32 years, we still have millions of fans. We can still perform for them and travel the world and play our music. And the new songs are just as important as the ones we made before. We’ve always been a ‘current’ band that ‘thinks about the now.’ We always try to forget what we did before,” he explained.

Cantrell stated that, even with other "incarnations" of the band, everyone always gives their best. "We're making music that we care about. And other people care about it too. As long as that's the case, we'll continue our journey."
