Singer Alice Glass used her Twitter last Monday, the 21st, to criticize an old statement by Machine Gun Kelly and ask the artist to comment on what was said.
Glass released a video of an old interview with Gun Kelly where the rapper, then 23 years old, said that his celebrity crush (a celebrity he would be attracted to) was the young model and member of the Kardashian , Kendall Jenner .
The controversy stemmed from the fact that Jenner was only 17 years old at the time of the interview, which even surprised the reporter interviewing Gun Kelly. "Are you counting down the days until she turns 18?" he asked. "I'm not going to wait until she turns 18, I'm going now," the rapper replied.
Machine Gun Kelly's arguments to justify his point of view only made the situation worse. First, he tried to defend himself by saying that Robert Plant had dated a 14-year-old girl, and then he mentioned Axl Rose and his relationship with a 16-year-old girl.
"Say what you want, if Kendall Jenner was naked in your bedroom and you were 50 years old, you'd still go for it," the rapper concluded.
Commenting on the passage in question, Alice Glass accused Machine Gun Kelly of trying to justify statutory rape – when sexual intercourse is not forced, but one of the individuals is below the legal age of consent – and asked the rapper to apologize for the mistake.
“In this video, MGK spouts a justification for statutory rape that boils down to 'it's okay to do it because other famous men do it.' It seems he spent a lot of time thinking about it because he quickly fires off a list of examples that encourage predatory behavior with underage girls,” the singer wrote.
“These were the same arguments I heard when I was a teenager. Arguments that were used to exploit me. This is very personal to me,” Glass continued. “It’s sad that I have to explain this to some of you, but sex with minors is wrong. They are not prepared or developed enough to make clear decisions when pressured by manipulative or pushy older men.”
“Being used by an older man for sex when you are a child/teenager can have devastating consequences that last for years or even a lifetime depending on the severity of the abuse. Please talk about it @machinegunkelly. Tell your fans it was a bad video. Tell them it was wrong,” she concluded.
So far, Machine Gun Kelly has not commented on the matter.
