"John Lennon was shouting with excitement"

Alice Cooper just toured Brazil, playing memorable shows at two major festivals, Rock In Rio and São Paulo Trip, and we at Wikimetal spoke with him.

When commenting on the current state of Rock and Roll, Cooper says that the fact that Guns N' Roses are back and that we have bands like Aerosmith, Foo Fighters, and Green Day playing shows is proof that the Rock scene is alive.

Remembering great musicians and friends, Cooper recounts a funny episode that happened to him and his band in 1968 during a festival in Toronto, Canada, where the lineup included John Lennon and The Doors, "they were very famous and we were practically unknown" .

“The Doors were there, did the show, and John Lennon was getting ready to go on stage after our performance, and he was watching us when I saw feathers everywhere. I looked down and there was a chicken on stage. I didn't bring a chicken! I was like, 'How is there a chicken on stage?' So I picked it up and threw it into the audience, thinking it would fly away. You know, it has feathers and wings, it's a bird! And it fell. Then the audience started tearing it apart and threw it back onto the stage.”.

The next day, the newspapers were saying, 'Alice Cooper kills a chicken and drinks its blood.' Of course, that never happened. And it was at a peaceful concert, and John Lennon was shouting with excitement! The next day, Frank Zappa called me and asked, 'Alice, did you kill a chicken at the show last night?' and I said no, so he said, 'Don't tell anyone, everyone loved it!' To this day, I don't know who brought the chicken to the concert. I mean, you're going to a concert, you take your wallet, your ticket, your wife, and your car keys, you don't take a chicken!”

The musician also told us what he thought of his documentary Super Duper Alice Cooper, “they presented me as Jekyll and Hyde. Now I am like that, but when I'm on stage I'm totally different, I'm a terrible villain. And when the show is over, I go back to being myself.”
