Alice Cooper talks about when he almost died on stage

Alice Cooper almost died during a concert

The theatrical aspect has always been one of the strong points of Alice Cooper's shows, but when he was playing at Wembley Stadium in England in 1988, the singer almost died after a hanging stunt went wrong.

The trick was created by magician James Randi, and it consisted of having Cooper in a harness, attached to a beam by a thick wire. “Everything has its stress limit, and after so many shows, I never thought about changing the wire ,” Cooper told Entertainment Weekly. “You know, I figured it would last forever.”

“I could hear the rope hitting my chin and in an instant I turned my head back. It must have been a fraction of a second […] I fell to the ground and passed out.”.

“When I go to the circus and there’s a guy in a cage with 12 tigers, there’s always a chance that one of the tigers won’t get the message,” he added. “When you see a guy with a tight wire, you know that in a second you could witness a tragedy. I always wanted that in our show: what they’re seeing could be Alice Cooper’s last night.”
