Alice Cooper: "Someone was trying to stop me from turning 70"

Musician claimed to have faced two near-death experiences in 2018

Alice Cooper turned 70 on February 4th, but the musician admitted it wasn't easy getting to this day: he faced two near-death experiences in the weeks leading up to his birthday. First, he was in Hawaii when authorities issued a false nuclear attack warning; then, he was involved in a car accident that destroyed two vehicles.

“Someone was trying to stop me from turning 70, but I’m still here,” he said in a recent interview with Billboard. Regarding the nuclear attack warning, he stated he was in shock. “You never want to see the words ‘imminent’ and ‘nuclear’ together. My belief tells me I will pass from one paradise to another, but it’s still shocking to think you could be ‘fried’ in 18 minutes. When it was over, we all laughed, but it was terrifying.”

The traffic accident happened about two weeks later, near his home in the American city of Phoenix. Despite the seriousness of the incident, no one was injured. "We came out without a scratch ," he recalls.

Even after the negative experiences, Cooper doesn't intend to slow down. Besides continuing with the tour promoting his latest album, Paranormal (2017), he plans a new show for next year. "There are a million ideas out there. The creativity hasn't gone away."

Cooper is also thinking about a new album for his supergroup, The Hollywood Vampires , which features Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and actor Johnny Depp. "We're writing ," he said, adding that Depp had done so " to be free for it."
