Alice Cooper revealed that he is the only rock star who calls him by his birth name, Vincent Damon Furnier .
According to NME , "Alice Cooper" was originally the name of the band in which he was the lead vocalist. After the band broke up in 1975, the musician decided to use his stage name as his legal name during the Welcome To My Nightmare .
In an interview with The Sun , he says: "The only person who calls me Vince is Keith Richards ."
According to the star, the dialogues between the two usually go like this: "He says: 'Vinnie, Vinnie, how long has it been since you had a drink?' And I reply: 'More than 30 years.' And then he says: 'Oh, why?'"
Cooper, who has been sober for 38 years, also recalled how his hedonistic days led to difficulties in separating himself from his stage persona. “When I was drinking and doing drugs, I didn’t know if I should leave the house in makeup. I felt I would disappoint people if I went out without a snake around my neck,” he said.
He continued: “Alice is my favorite rock star, but he stays on stage and I go back to my normal life. That’s why I can talk about Alice in the third person. Someone brings me a costume and I say, ‘No, Alice would never wear that!’”
Meanwhile, last week, Cooper contradicted Gene Simmons after the KISS recently stated that rock is "dead."
“There are a lot of 18-year-old kids there with guitars and drums. They’re learning hard rock,” he told NME . “It’s the same thing with the United States: there are all these young bands that want to revive that whole hard rock scene.”
