In 1970, Alice Cooper was in Las Vegas, where he experienced a peculiar night and had the opportunity to meet Elvis Presley .
During an interview with Never Mind the Buzzcocks [ via Loudersound ], the vocalist revealed that he had received a call from Presley's agent and that the King of Rock would like to see him.
“I met Elvis in Las Vegas, around 1970. I was with Liza Minnelli , and we received a call from his agent, inviting us to his suite at the Hilton. In fact, he had rented several floors of the hotel. It was like visiting the Pope!”
“So Liza and I arrived at the hotel and took the elevator with Chubby Checker and Linda Lovelace . I remember thinking that three of us would be sent off, and one person would stay behind—I wondered who that would be.”
Upon arriving at the suite, the King of Shock Rock underwent a search to ensure no one was carrying a weapon. However, the room was full of them, and something unusual happened afterward: Elvis taught him how to disarm someone.
“We went to the kitchen, he opened a drawer, took out a loaded, short-barreled .38 revolver, put it in my hand and said, ‘I’m going to show you how to take this gun out of someone’s hand.’”
So, while holding the gun, Alice Cooper said that "the voices in his head" were telling him to shoot Elvis Presley, not to kill him, but rather to "hurt his shoulder," which didn't happen.
“But before I could decide what to do, I was on the ground and he had his boot on my throat. I thought, ‘This is great, Elvis, this is great.’”
