Alexi Laiho , vocalist, guitarist and founder of the prestigious Finnish metal band Children of Bodom , has passed away at the age of 41, as confirmed by the supergroup Bodom After Midnight .
"It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we have to announce the passing of Alexi Laiho," reads the tragic announcement made by the band. "We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the sudden loss of our dear friend and bandmate."
“Our journey together as a band was just beginning, so there are no words to describe the shock and bottomless sadness we all feel. May his soul rest in peace, we will miss him eternally. We love you, brother. Our deepest condolences go out to his family. No further announcements or interviews will be given at this time. We kindly ask that you respect our need to process and get through this terrible situation in privacy. Thank you for your understanding and support,” the statement concludes.
The band, founded in the mid-1990s, has a respectable discography, with renowned projects such as Hatebreeder (1999), Are You Dead Yet? (2005), among many others. The group recently disbanded in 2019, and last year Alexi shared with fans the birth of his new band, Bodom After Midnight, the artist's current project.
The musician was a beloved figure in the music scene, being included in Wikimetal 's list of the most talented musicians of the new generation , and also as one of the greatest guitarists and composers in metal by Loudwire .
