Alex Van Halen has released an audio excerpt from his book Brothers , a dedication and "love letter" to his late brother Eddie Van Halen .

Alex begins by expressing his love and affection for Eddie, commenting that music was the factor that brought them "as close as brothers can be."

“We were connected in every way – genetically, artistically, financially, emotionally, and even though neither of us was attached to Catholicism, I’ll go ahead and say spiritually. It’s been almost four years since you left, Ed, and sometimes it feels like it happened this morning,” Alex continues.

At the end of “Overture,” the artist comments: “Outlive my little brother? That simply wasn’t the plan. As the older brother, I was supposed to die first. Same old story, Ed… cutting in line.”

After praising his brother's musical talent and stating that Eddie could be quite sensitive to criticism from others, Alex describes the various feelings he experienced seeing the world "mourn his passing and other people claiming to tell his story," and promises to clarify everything in Brothers .

The book will be published on October 22nd and will feature Alex and Eddie Van Halen's last musical piece, "Unfinished." The drummer shared snippets of the song on his social media; check out the artist's posts and the excerpt from Brothers :
