The famous Van Halen , Alex Van Halen, will publish a memoir titled Brothers , scheduled for release on October 22nd of this year. Without many details, the book, which will be published by HarperCollins, has a preview with the working title The Brothers Van Halen and will be available in three formats.
According to reports ( via Loudwire ), the book will apparently show Alex's relationship with his brother and bandmate, Eddie Van Halen , recounting the beginning of it all, when they started playing each other's instruments, only later taking on the ones they became known for; the arrival of bassist Michael Anthony and vocalist David Lee Roth , the change of the band's name from Mammoth to Van Halen, and much more.
In an interview given to the website Ultimate Classic Rock in 2021, Alex spoke about the importance of connecting with the audience after honing their skills.
“After honing our skills, you learn the connection between people and music. When playing live, there should be no dead space. Never turn your back on the audience and never insult them. They are your equals.”
“That line separating the audience from the stage isn’t a line. It’s just to prevent them from throwing up on your stuff! You’re there to make the audience feel good,” Alex concludes.
Alex didn't want to get involved in the plans for the tribute concerts for his brother.
For Alex, there's nothing left in music but zeros and ones, and so things have become more difficult, like earning anything with today's technology.
“Back in the day you earned a dollar per record, and now you earn 50 cents for 275,000 streams. It’s insane. It’s wrong. Now the only thing you have is to play live, which is ironic, because that’s how it all started,” he commented.
However, earlier this year, vocalist Sammy Hagar commented on why Alex wasn't participating in discussions regarding tribute shows to Eddie's memory ( via AZ Central ): "I think he, you know, doesn't like playing without his brother. I don't blame him, God bless him."
