Alex Lifeson has reiterated that he doesn't want a Rush , even though he still plays with his former bandmate, Geddy Lee .
In a recent interview with Classic Rock, he explained the situation: "It's good to play with friends when you get older," says the guitarist.
“I need to play. Once a week I go to Ged – it’s on the calendar – keep my fingers moving, play Rush stuff, new jams. We record, but I couldn’t even begin to tell you where this is going.”
Rush drummer Neil Peart died in 2020, but before that, Rush had already played their last show in 2015. In 2022, after the death of Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters , Lee and Lifeson played two more shows.
“After those two shows and the months of preparation that Ged and I went through, I was thrilled with the response and to be backstage again with so many fellow artists in Wembley and Los Angeles whom I respected and felt an affinity with.”
He continues: “But after a few weeks, that passed and it occurred to me that, despite all the pain of the loss, Rush came out strong, playing as well as ever with one of our best shows on the R40 stage. I think I’d rather be remembered for that legacy than return as the best Rush cover band.”
