Alex Lifeson Rush bandmate , bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee, will play together again in the near future.

The band's last performance was in 2015, and five years later, drummer Neil Peart passed away from cancer . In recent years, the musicians have only reunited sporadically .

Speaking to The Prog Report [via Blabbermouth ], the guitarist responded to how close he and Lee came to accepting an offer to play together.

“Well, they happen all the time, it’s been consistent for 10 years. And I would say it’s happening even more lately. After the pandemic, everyone’s on the road and there’s enthusiasm for live shows, people want to go out more. So, all those old promoters are quite excited to receive something from us.”

“Geddy has been writing a lot lately. He’s already published four books, he’s been super busy with all of that. I’m working on Envy of None , we already have two albums. I also do some soundtracks and produce other smaller artists. So, I’ve also been super, super, super busy.”

Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee's relationship

He also emphasizes that his relationship with the bassist is that of "best friends" and that they "see each other all the time" since they both live close by. According to him, the musicians live 10 minutes away from each other and always get together for coffee, and sometimes "go down to the basement" and "play anything."

Alex Lifeson concluded by answering a question about the possibility of sharing the stage with Geddy Lee.

“I don’t know. Anything can happen in the world. I mean, so many things are changing, so many things are happening that we would never expect. We see it every day, especially in politics. So, who knows? Right now, we’re still busy living life and doing so many things, but… well, let’s see what happens.”
