What a show, what a woman, what a performance! Alanis Morissette gave an impeccable show this Tuesday, the 14th, on the eve of a holiday, to an absolutely packed Allianz Parque in São Paulo.

In short, Alanis played virtually her debut album, Jagged Little Pill , in its entirety, with a few other songs interspersed in the setlist, mostly from the excellent and little-known Such Pretty Forks in the Road from 2020.

Jagged Little Pill

Released in 1995, Jagged Little Pill was one of the albums I listened to most in my life, one of the most successful debut albums in history (debut album in quotes, after all Alanis had released 2 albums previously that didn't get much attention from record labels, much less from the international media).

One of the most perfect representations of the 90s and the golden age of MTV, and especially MTV Brazil. What an incredible feat for a Canadian of only 21 years old, after some unsuccessful attempts in show business, to have released such an incredibly perfect album.

Glenn Ballard 's impeccable production , and all tracks written and composed by her, it sold over 35 million copies worldwide and influenced an entire generation of girls who realized it was possible to become a rock singer-songwriter with a message.

On the other hand, perhaps that was Alanis's biggest mistake. She never managed to equal that achievement, and throughout her career, she was forced to remain stuck with that repertoire, so perfect that she could never let it go. The 1995 album is so good that all the songs were hits, even the album's hidden track, "Your House," was sung at the top of their lungs by 49,000 fans last night at Allianz.

But Alanis remains strong and resilient, possessing an extremely powerful voice. She sang her songs as if she were still 21 years old, exuding charm with few words between songs, her contagious smile, and immense charisma.

Alanis's amazing band

Special mention goes to their incredibly tight and sharp band, which features the excellent drummer Victor Indrizzo and guitarist Jason Orme .

Alanis is famous for being accompanied by excellent musicians; she was the one who revealed the giant Taylor Hawkins to the world. The drummer was honored during "Ironic," one of Alanis's biggest hits—what a truly moving moment.

Yesterday's show was excellent, and it made me want to catch up and listen more attentively to Alanis' albums released after Jagged Little Pill , and try to understand why an artist like her couldn't repeat the success of her first album—what an injustice! Besides the documentary The Couch , the great HBO series Jagged tells this and other stories very well; I recommend it!

But it's never too late to seek justice, and I hope the 49,000 fans who were there will do the same, listen to and continue supporting this great artist in her upcoming releases and visits to Brazil. Yesterday's show will go down in history, not only in the lives of the fans, but certainly in the life of Alanis Morissette.

Rock and metal have always been present in my life and always will be. This is me, the idea that nothing will destroy us, that we are stronger than everything, we are just, we are warriors. It can be through a silly lyric or an analogy to war made by Maiden, we understand all of that - [email protected]
