Yes drummer Alan White died on Thursday, the 26th, at the age of 72, after a brief, unspecified illness. The news was confirmed by the band itself in a statement on social media .
"It is with profound sadness that YES announces that Alan White, their beloved drummer and friend of 50 years, has passed away at the age of 72 after a short illness. The news has shocked and surprised the entire YES family," the band wrote.
John Lennon 's band Plastic Ono , having recorded "Imagine" with the former Beatle, as well as working with George Harrison on the solo album Everything Must Pass .
The musician had been absent from the band for upcoming shows due to health issues and had been facing problems since 2016. On those occasions, the drummer was replaced by Jay Schellen and made brief appearances at the shows. The band celebrates the 50th anniversary of the album Close to the Edge on stage in June, and the performance will be dedicated to their friend.
