Even though Aerosmith abruptly announced their disbandment due to Steven Tyler , the band's bassist, Tom Hamilton , spoke in an interview about the possibility of the band's return.

Speaking to WBUR FM radio , Hamilton addressed Tyler's injury situation and the future of Aerosmith ( via NME ):

“Steven’s recovery process is going very well, but it’s going at its own pace. Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but that’s a big ‘if.’ The last thing I want to do is try to push Steven in that direction. If we do anything in the future, it will come from him.”

The bassist's statement to the American radio station is consistent with what he told AARP in August 2024 about an Aerosmith reunion on a scale of zero to ten ( via NME ):

“On a scale of how hopeful I am, I’d place myself somewhere between a 7 and a 9. We won’t be touring for now, but I’ll always have hope that other kinds of opportunities will come along.”

Aerosmith's bitter retirement from the stage.

In 2023, Aerosmith announced the Peace Out Tour, which would be their farewell tour and featured The Black Crowes as the opening act. What turned out to be the group's final show took place on September 9, 2023, in Elmont, New York.

Steven Tyler's worsening vocal cord injury was decisive in the cancellation of the farewell tour and, ultimately, in the band's official statement declaring their retirement from the stage.

In the statement, the band wrote: “Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He spent months working tirelessly to get his old voice back. We saw him struggling, despite having the best medical team by his side. Unfortunately, it’s clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible.”

"We've made a painful and difficult, but necessary decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from touring."
