In a recent interview, Adrian Smith Iron Maiden 's new album , Senjutsu , and commented especially on the captivating single " The Writing On The Wall Western nature , reminiscent of the Old West.
“To me, it sounds more like English folk,” Smith said. “And if you look at old English folk music, it probably came to America hundreds of years ago, mixed with Cajun, with the blues, and became what people call American country. To me, if you go back to the roots, I feel it’s more folky.”
Clarifying a possible confusion with the word used, Adrian Smith continued: “ Folly , I meant – not funky . If there’s one thing Iron Maiden will never do, it’s funk. As much as I love it, I don’t think we’ll ever do it. I can’t imagine Steve Harris slapping the bass… And Nicko is the most incredible funk drummer you’ll ever hear. He can do anything.”
