Def Leppard went through a difficult time in 1991 when Steve Clark passed away. The guitarist had been away from the band for six months before suffering an overdose at the age of 30. As a result, the group, in addition to mourning their colleague, had to find another guitarist.
During an interview with EonMusic about his biography, Monster of River and Rock , Adrian Smith revealed that he was considered for the position before the band changed their minds and chose Vivian Campbell , who played with Dio and Whitesnake and who remains in the position to this day.
Adrian had just left Iron Maiden and, according to him, this is a long story: "Maybe I'll write about it in a future book," he joked, only confirming that he was considered for the position, without revealing any further information.
The book Monsters of River and Rock was released on September 3rd.
