Sacha Baron-Cohen was removed from the production
The director and lead actor for the Queen biopic were announced yesterday. The film will star Ben Whishaw as Freddie Mercury and will be directed by Dexter Fletcher.
British director Fletcher has only directed two films to date, Wild Bill and Sunshine On Leith. Actor Ben Whishaw, known for 007 – Skyfall, Perfume and Cloud Atlas, was confirmed for the production after Sacha Baron Cohen, known for his role in Borat, was dropped by the band.
Brian May spoke about Cohen's departure: “We owe him a lot and he was very enthusiastic about the project. But ultimately we felt his performances were too unique and it would be a distraction .
The film should portray the band's history from its formation to its performance at Live Aid in 1985.
