Rock Candy magazine , former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley explained why he never went on stage with Kiss at their final performance in December 2023 at Madison Square Garden.
“The fans always told me ‘Ace, come back to the band,’ and since the fans were and always will be my priority, I want them to know that I tried, but I couldn’t make it happen. They [ Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley ] never invited me,” Ace comments, in an excerpt from the interview (via Bravewords ).
Ace Frehley dismissed the idea that his drug and alcohol problems were a reason for Gene and Paul not to contact him.
"I'm sober, and my friends and associates can confirm that. I reached a point where it took over my life, and I'm happy to have left it all behind," he says.
Despite the various problems with his former bandmates over the years , Ace comments that his love for them hasn't changed: "I wish people knew that I love Gene and Paul, and I wish things had been different. But it wasn't meant to be."
New album and Ace Frehley's expectations for the future.
With his new album, 10,000 Volts , about to release, Frehley is excited about the future, even away from the band that made him a superstar:
“My new songs are going to be a huge success. The checks aren’t coming in, but I’m happy with what I’m doing musically. I can wake up every day knowing that my soul is mine.”
