There were still criticisms left for the current guitarist, Tommy Thayer.

Ace Frehley stated in an interview that the only way he would truly consider participating in the "One Last Kiss: End Of The Road World Tour" would be to reclaim the makeup, costume, and character he created.

Kiss 's current guitarist , Tommy Thayer, isn't a bad guitarist. "But basically he copies everything I've written and tries to imitate my persona. He's been doing that for 15 years," he said. "But the truth is, I'm the original guy. And nobody can copy the way I play guitar."

Asked if he would consider participating in the tour if original drummer Peter Criss were involved, Ace said: “It would be great if Peter were involved. Obviously, at this point in his life, he wouldn’t be able to do a two-hour show. But I think if we figured out a way for him to come in at the end and play three or four songs – sing 'Beth', play 'Black Diamond' and others – it would be a lot of fun.”

Ace said he wasn't approached about being part of the tour: "Fans are talking about it, but I haven't received any calls. Until then, everything remains up in the air."

Between 2000 and 2001, Kiss had already done a farewell tour. Those were the last shows with Ace and Peter, who played in 142 performances across North America, Japan, and Australia.
