On November 13, 2020, AC/DC released Power Up , their seventeenth studio album. Five years after its release, the Australian band continues to prove that the raw energy of rock never gets old.
The album marked the return of the classic lineup after a turbulent period and today also lends its name to the world tour that brings the group back to Brazil in 2026, with tickets selling out surprisingly quickly for the 3 dates in São Paulo.
Produced by Brendan O'Brien , Power Up marked the historic reunion of the band, which until then had been living with uncertainty. It was their first work after the death of guitarist and co-founder Malcolm Young in 2014, and it brings together riffs and ideas created by him, transforming the album into a tribute to his memory. The other members returned after experiencing personal and health problems in previous years.
Vocalist Brian Johnson , who had left the band due to hearing problems, returned after an experimental treatment. Phil Rudd , absent due to legal issues, resumed playing drums. Bassist Cliff Williams , who had announced his retirement, reversed his decision to rejoin Angus Young.
In an interview with USA Today at the time of the release, Angus Young said: “I think he [Malcolm] would be proud of the work we did for him. Even the title we gave it, 'Power Up', basically sums it up, too. When he picked up that guitar, he was a great guitarist. Let's just say this: when he played guitar, it sounded like two people were playing.”
The classic lineup was reunited to make history through 12 tracks compiled on an album that made Rolling Stone 's list of the best albums of the year , reached number 1 on the UK charts, was the fastest-selling album of the year charts in the band's home country, Australia, for the third consecutive week
AC/DC and the Power Up Tour in Brazil
Launched in 2024, the second phase of the Power Up Tour celebrates the album and the band's legacy with large-scale shows in Europe, North America, and South America. Brazil will be one of the highlights of this journey, with AC/DC returning to the country after more than 15 years to perform at Estádio MorumBIS. The opening act will be The Pretty Reckless , led by Taylor Momsen.
Five years after its launch, the Power Up Tour arrives in Latin America with 3 dates in Brazil. Initially announced with a single date in São Paulo on February 22, 2026, the tour gained two new dates (February 28 and March 3) after tickets sold out in about 95 minutes.
According to the website Metal Injection , AC/DC sold an impressive 1.5 million tickets in a single day during their 2024 European tour. In Australia, for the same tour, more than 370,000 tickets were sold in a single day. In Brazil, the band sold the equivalent of 200,000 tickets in just a few hours, considering the Morumbi stadium's capacity of 67,000 seats – reaching 67,815 spectators in a single day, similar to the Bruno Mars concert, according to information from SãoPauloFC.
