Bon Scott , former lead singer of AC/DC , will be honored in Australia to mark the 40th anniversary of his death. On March 1, 2020, ten kilometers of the Canning Highway will be closed for a festival featuring eight bands playing AC/DC covers.

The stretch of road where the event, part of the Perth Festival, will take place is known as the real Highway to Hell due to the numerous fatal accidents that have occurred there. The name was given shortly after the release of the 1979 album, the last one with Bon Scott.

Iain Grandage , artistic director of the Perth Festival, told The Guardian that the idea to honor the vocalist came from the event's dates – February 7th to March 1st. Bon Scott died on February 19th after an overdose, according to the death certificate. The actual cause of death was never confirmed.

Every kilometer along the Canning Highway will have a space for bands to perform. Along the road, the music video for "It's a Long Way to the Top," filmed on a truck while passing through Swanston Street in Melbourne, will also be shown.

Besides being called the Highway to Hell, the road was also a route the musician traveled throughout his youth. See a map of the festival below.
