Peter Freestone , a close friend of Freddie Mercury , revealed during an interview with NME that the Queen would not have wanted a sequel to Bohemian Rhapsody , the biopic about the singer and the band.

“I don’t like the idea that there could be a Bohemian Rhapsody II . Whatever they would put in this film, you’d have to show 20 minutes or half an hour of Freddie dying, and I don’t think anyone needs to see that,” he said.

He further commented that the sequel wouldn't make sense after the ending of Bohemian Rhapsody , which shows the group performing at Live Aid: “Because of the changes in the timeline, if the film continued after Live Aid where the original film ends, how would you change things to make the sequel normal? You couldn't make a whole two-hour film about a specific moment, like the production of 'Barcelona'. What they did, they did. It's great the way it is.”

Freestone also spoke to Express Online and said he believes Freddie Mercury wouldn't be on stage anymore if he were alive. “I think he didn't want to get old. He was a rock star and he dominated the stage. I don't think he would have continued,” he said. “Freddie would have felt he was letting the fans down because he wouldn't be able to give his show.”

However, he insists on the idea that Mercury would never have given up his music career, only the stage: “He would have been like, ‘Honey, I’ll write the song, but you’re going to go and perform it with someone else (…) I’m sure he would have continued writing music. It would never have stopped.”
