The museum curator suggested the name
Scientists who recently reclassified a series of crocodile fossils honored the late Motörhead vocalist by naming a giant crocodile from the Jurassic period Lemmysuchus.
Paleontologist Michela Johnson spoke about the creature: "With a skull one meter in diameter and a total length of five meters and eighty centimeters, it would have been one of the largest predators on the coast in its time."
The curator of the Natural History Museum in London suggested the name: “Although Lemmy passed away in 2015, we would like to think that he would make a toast in homage to Lemmysuchus, one of the most bizarre creatures that ever lived on Earth.”
