Alexi Laiho , vocalist, guitarist, and frontman of Children of Bodom , possessed a wild charisma coupled with easily identifiable vocals and a guitar technique that earned him the title of guitar hero.
From its beginnings in 1993, when it went by the name Inearthed , the melodic death metal band Children of Bodom was always unique in the way it managed to unite various strands within extreme metal and, logically, with the death of its frontman, which occurred on December 29, 2020 , it was impossible to continue. However, the musicians are gone, but the music is eternal, and to crown this legacy we have A Chapter Called Children of Bodom (Final Show in Helsinki Ice Hall 2019) .
After all the drama that COB went through, with musicians leaving and Laiho's tragic passing, it is believed that this live album has a great emotional weight for everyone involved. At that time, the band consisted of Jaska Raatikainen on drums, Janne Wirman on keyboards, and Henkka Seppälä on bass.
As the title indicates, this album was recorded in the Finnish capital in 2019, where they were promoting the album Hexed . Therefore, to open the set, two of the album's highlights, "Under Grass and Clover" and "Platitudes and Barren Words".
After honoring their recent work, we have a sequence of classics that answer why they are so huge: “In Your Face”, “Shovel Knockout”, “Bodom Beach Terror” (with its unmistakable drum beat) and “Everytime I Die”.
Looking closely at the setlist, it was clear that they respected all of their albums. Of course, they gave greater prominence to Follow the Reaper and Hate Crew Death Roll , and for the fan, there's a sense of nostalgia and even a somber feeling knowing that we will no longer witness Laiho live, in more recent metal classics like "Angels Don't Kill," "Hate Me," and the one that was given the mission of closing this chapter, "Downfall."
Few bands can put together such an extensive setlist and maintain the same energy (18 songs in total). An epitaph, a chapter that concludes a victorious journey.
The album received a special edition in Brazil in a slipcase. The release was made possible through a partnership between Wikimetal and Oporto Da Música. Click here to purchase your copy.
