A mix of grunge, metal, and hardcore? Impavid Colossus explains the band's musical style.

The band from São Paulo released 'Prologue', their debut album, on July 13th.

Impavid Colossus is the new revelation of Brazilian rock. The São Paulo-based band, formed by musicians from renowned national and international bands, debuted with the album Prologue , released on July 13th, with references to various styles within heavy music.

Interviewed on The Wikimetal Happy Hour , guitarists Marcelo Barchetta and Felipe Ruiz discussed the band's diverse influences after Nando Machado mentioned grunge, hardcore, and the group's "more current metal sound."

“It’s a combination of the best of each member of the band. Felipe comes from metal, we really like heavy music,” Barchetta began. “But I also like California hardcore, a lot of Swedish bands that mix heaviness and melody. And I don’t know, I think the flavor of Enrico [Minelli] opens up a range of possibilities wherever you want to go.”

The band's first album attempts to balance so many different influences and find its own sound in this process of self-discovery. "I have absolutely no idea [about the style]," Ruiz continued. "It's been a good alchemy, regardless of whether we say it's hardcore, grunge, or metal, we're finding the band's mold. Prologue is that synthesis."

Formed at the beginning of the pandemic, the band has not yet had the opportunity to debut on stage, but plans to hold a live stream featuring tracks from the album soon. In addition to guitarists and vocalist Minelli, Impavid Colossus includes Guilherme Malanga (bass) and Alexandre Iafelice (drums).
