Dark Pictures is preparing a feature film based on Weiland's biography, Not Dead & Not for Sale . The vocalist joined Stone Temple Pilots in the 1990s, but his struggle with addiction caused him to step away from fame. Weiland eventually left the group and later joined Velvet Revolver in 2002. Along with Slash, Duff McKagan , and Matt Sorum , he made history with two studio albums.

In 2008 he returned to Stone Temple Pilots to tour with the group, a tour that lasted until 2013. Weiland left the band again, but this time he focused on his solo career until December 2015, when he passed away during a tour. He was 48 years old.
