Summer Breeze festival arrives in Brazil this weekend. With a lineup packed with rock and metal acts, the event takes place on April 29th and 30th, 2023, at the Memorial da América Latina in São Paulo.
As part of the lead-up to the festival, Wikimetal has already prepared a series of special content: you can test your knowledge about the event in this quiz and discover the acts in the special Summer Breeze Brasil . Now, we bring you 7 reasons not to miss the festival, which will feature incredible bands and promises an experience as powerful as the line-up.
Tickets for Summer Breeze Brasil are still available for purchase on the Ticket360 website.
Special edition celebrates 25 years of the festival.
Despite being the first edition of the festival in Brazil, which already gives the event special value, Summer Breeze Open Air also celebrates 25 years since its first edition, which took place in Bavaria, Germany.
It's worth remembering that the São Paulo version of the festival will be part of the city's official calendar and will take place annually, so this is your chance to be a part of this story from the beginning.
Lectures by Bruce Dickinson and Simone Simons
Beyond the musical experience, the Summer Breeze Brasil festival will also feature an amazing program of talks, with Bruce Dickinson and Simone Simmons scheduled to speak about their careers, the music industry, entrepreneurship, and interesting facts about life on tour.
These lectures and seminars take place on the Waves Stage, located in the Simon Bolivar Auditorium, inside the Latin America Memorial, which has a capacity to accommodate an audience of approximately 1800 people.
Bruce Dickinson will give a talk on Saturday the 29th at 4pm, while Simone Simons will be on the Waves Stage on Sunday the 30th, starting at 4:20pm.
Access to the lecture stage is exclusive to those with Summer Lounge tickets, which offer a range of other amenities. It is necessary to purchase a festival ticket separately (Summer Card – one-day ticket or Summer Pass – two-day ticket) and only then add the Summer Lounge ticket.
Brazilian bands at Summer Breeze
Among the 40 acts performing at the festival throughout the weekend, we have big names in Brazilian rock and metal who deserve to be supported at this event.
The bands Sepultura, Krisiun, Crypta, Tuatha de Danann, and Project46 are confirmed, in addition to the Bittencourt Project, by Rafael Bittencourt of Angra, and a show by the Brutal Brega , by João Gordo.
Another highlight will be the show by the Minas Gerais-based hard rock band Electric Gypsy, formed by Guzz (vocals), Nolas (guitar), Pete (bass), and Robert Zimmerman (drums). The group won the New Blood , promoted by Summer Breeze Brasil to encourage and promote the local rock and heavy metal scene. Their show takes place on Sunday, April 30th, at 6 PM, on the Waves Stage.
Tributes to Andre Matos
Fans of Andre Matos will be able to experience two tributes to the Brazilian metal icon on Saturday the 29th. The first is the exclusive premiere of the second episode of the documentary Maestro do Rock, which follows the artist's entry into the Santa Marcelina Music College, where he met his future Angra colleagues. The screening will take place in the Waves Stage auditorium between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM.
Later, on the Ice Stage, the bands Shaman and Viper will be joined by Felipe Andreoli and Rafael Bittencourt (Angra) for a show designed entirely to honor the life and legacy of Andre Matos. The show takes place from 2:10 PM to 3:10 PM.
Blind Guardian returns with two new albums.
Blind Guardian is the main headliner for Summer Breeze Brazil on Saturday. The band returns to the country for the first time in almost a decade and in a very different setting: the power metal group's last visit here was to a closed venue in 2015.
Now on the grand stage of the festival, the band comes with the tour promoting their twelfth studio album, called The God Machine , released in 2022. In addition, Blind Guardian will also perform songs from their 2020 album Legacy of the Dark Lands .
Parkway Drive returns for the first time since 2014.
The headliners on Sunday will be the Australian band Parkway Drive, who also haven't performed in our country for almost a decade. Their last shows here were in 2014.
Since then, the band has released four new albums – Ire (2015), Reverence (2018), the live album Viva The Underdogs (2020) and Darker Still (2022) – news that should certainly leave fans very excited for the band's return.
Opportunity to see Lamb of God live.
Lamb of God, who haven't played in Brazil since 2017, is confirmed for the Summer Breeze festival on Saturday. The band will perform shortly before Blind Guardian in a show highly anticipated by the Brazilian audience.
The band has just released the acclaimed album Omens , voted the best rock and metal release of 2022 Wikimetal readers with 44% of the total votes. Furthermore, Lamb of God is one of the most requested bands for shows in Brazil by our audience, so this is a great opportunity for fans of the group.
