Rolling Stone magazine recently published a list of the 100 best heavy metal songs of all time. The selection includes seven tracks from female-fronted bands, from Lita Ford and Warlock to Evanescence and Arch Enemy .
In this list, the song chosen as the best in the history of metal to date was "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath , for its unique "essence of evil" and feeling (learn more here ).
Considering only bands with female vocalists, the highest-ranked track was "Kiss Me Deadly" by Lita Ford . Released in 1988, the track is part of the singer-vocalist's first solo album, who had already made history in rock and metal as part of The Runaways . Curiously, no song by the band itself made it into the ranking.
The selection of the 100 best metal songs of all time was made by headbanger critics and writers from Rolling Stone, who debated for several months which songs would define the genre.
