The shows were suspended due to Eddie Van Halen's surgery to treat a severe bout of diverticulitis. Want to know if it's worth going to see them when they're back on stage?

By Gilberto Morais

6 reasons to see Van Halen:

– Stability and internal environment of the band: They are visibly enjoying what they are doing on stage. If there are internal conflicts or fights, then they are all excellent actors and are performing and disguising things very well. Eddie is all smiles all the time, and for him, playing with his own son must be a source of pride and personal satisfaction. It's noticeable to anyone who has seen a recent show that they are enjoying this moment and truly having fun on stage. In short, they are in a great moment and happy.

– The album 'Different Kind Of Truth': It's fantastic. It does justice to the band's legacy. Only time will elevate it to classic status, but it's a fact that it's absolutely on par with the first 6 albums from the Diamond David era and even recaptures that wilder sound of the band from that time. 4 songs are part of the current repertoire.

– The classics: Aside from the new songs, you'll see and hear practically everything you'd want from the classic David Lee Roth era. And there are even some more obscure songs that haven't been performed in a long time, but are no less fantastic, like 'Girl Gone Bad' and 'Hear It About Later'.

Ticket from the show I had the honor of attending on this tour

– Eddie: That he's brilliant and innovative, we don't need to repeat, everyone already knows, but the man is "on fire." He's playing incredibly well, being the highlight of the band, and above all, he's sober and very happy, as we've already emphasized. Of all of them, he's the member whose performance borders on perfection. Wolfgang comes right after his father. The boy wants to prove himself and is very competent. And he doesn't make us lament the absence of Michael Anthony, after all, as a bassist, he fulfills his role very well.

– Diamond David: He's not an exceptional vocalist, not even when he was young, we all know that, but he's a star and remains one of the most charismatic frontmen of all time. He knows how to command the audience like no one else, compensating for his lack of voice, which is even more pronounced due to his age. If all that isn't enough to convince you, he speaks Portuguese well and has the ability to improvise even in our language, as he demonstrated during his performance of 'Ice Cream Man' at the last 'Live And Loud' festival.

– Last chance: Classic rock bands are getting old, and even though they still have energy, age is taking its toll, and many are announcing their retirement. So, if Van Halen is still playing, touring, and in shape, as they've been showing, this might be the first and only chance to see them. There's an added complication: in their last two tours, they didn't leave North America, their comfort zone. If shows in Brazil are confirmed, don't miss the opportunity, as it might be the only one.

In conclusion, remember: Van Halen with David Lee Roth, as they themselves have said, is the perfect soundtrack for getting drunk and having sex.

Until next time!
