Heavy metal has won over fans and musicians in all corners of the world, with a large base established in Finland, a huge list of German names, incredible bands from both sides of the United States, new acts emerging daily from Africa, groups that are a resounding success in Japan, and, of course, Brazil and its fervent love for the genre.
Therefore, it's no surprise that a band from Mongolia, in Asia, has captured the hearts (and ears) of metal fans everywhere. If you haven't heard The HU , we've compiled some reasons and interesting facts to convince you to give their devastating sound a chance.
Check out the Mongolian band The HU below and press play!
The band's origins and sound.
The first characteristic that stands out about the band is The HU's origin. The group comes from Mongolia, a nation that borders China and Russia. Mongolian culture is known for being influenced by a nomadic way of life and for encompassing various religions, especially Buddhism and shamanism. Because of this, The HU's sound is quite different to us here in the West.
The band's folk-metal sound is quite different and appealing, taking them to a completely new level in heavy metal. Therefore, when they started playing at festivals and opening for international artists, the band stood out and grew very quickly.
The language
What could have been a difficulty for the group became a strength: the language. Just like Rammstein , Babymetal , and others who sing in their native language (and not English), The HU performs, in the studio and at shows, in Mongolian.
Besides being an interesting unique feature, it offers a distinctive experience to metal fans who can, in addition to enjoying music inspired by Mongolian culture, learn a little about this language that is so unfamiliar to us.
Collaborations
From early on, The HU was in contact with incredible and famous bands. Even before releasing their debut album, The Gereg (2019), the group signed a contract with the Better Noise label, home to Papa Roach and Five Finger Death Punch , among others.
With this, the group had the opportunity to record "Wolf Totem" with Papa Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix , and was able to explore their creative limits extensively, even pushing the boundaries of the record label. In 2020, the group recorded "Song of Women" with Lzzy Hale , vocalist of Halestorm .
Special projects
In addition to the collaborations mentioned above, the group contributed to the soundtrack of the game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, produced by Respawn Entertainment. This partnership, which took place in 2019, resulted in the song "Sugaan Essena," which you can listen to below.
And as if that project wasn't incredible enough, the group also took part in the 30th anniversary celebration of Metallica 's Black Album , covering "Through The Never" for The Metallica Blacklist (2021).
