On October 20th, 2014, Wikimetal released its 200th episode. That's 200 podcasts about Rock/Metal. More than 200 hours of audio (around 9 uninterrupted days). And for each of those hours of audio, how many more were spent to achieve the result we hear every week? So much work just to bring entertainment to strangers… but is that all there is to it? Just entertainment?
No, it's not just that. Throughout these 200 weeks, Wikimetal has provided more than just entertainment for its audience. That's certainly a big part of it, but it's far from the only benefit this great work has given us.
The most evident contribution is keeping the flame alive. Every day there's new material, whether episodes, images, texts, or news, and it's done with great seriousness, dedication, and passion. And also with everyone's collaboration, as the "Wiki" in the name suggests. And that's a strong point of Wikimetal: giving strength to ourselves through participation and the exchange of knowledge.
Knowledge . I can no longer count how much I've learned thanks to Wikimetal. Many bands, whether new or old, Brazilian or from abroad, of one style or another. In fact, that's also a huge contribution: not making distinctions. As they themselves say, we're all under the same umbrella and we're all the "excluded," it doesn't make sense to separate ourselves even further.
"National Pride gives listeners the satisfaction of discovering something new, and the band gets another chance to have their work publicized and recognized."

National Pride . Everyone knows that Brazil has many good bands, but it's not always easy to find them or for them to find good exposure. This simple, short segment provides a lot for many people: the satisfaction of a listener discovering something new, and the satisfaction of the band, which has another chance to have its work publicized and recognized. Everyone wins! These are bands that often had their first exposure to a wider audience through the podcast, and many times through recommendations from various listeners. Again, the concept of "Wiki" is very present and strengthens the scene.
And recognition is something that also happens with Wikimetal itself: "Where else do you hear an interview like this?" is not a phrase used lightly; just look at how many people they have already reached. Not just anyone can achieve all this; you need to be as serious and competent as Wikimetal to get where they are—a saga, we would say, comparable to that of great bands who, with much struggle, conquered their space in the minds of Brazilian headbangers, such as Sepultura, Krisiun, and others. For that reason alone, they can already be considered a landmark in this decade in terms of great achievements for Brazilian heavy music.
Another major change is seeing Wikimetal working outside of Brazil over time, as the growing visibility and competence of the Wikimetal Portal brings diverse benefits: from the possibility of new and different interviews to coverage of major shows across the country. It's also worth remembering that in the same week that episode #200 aired, Wikimetal began a new challenge: the first season on its YouTube channel. A bold move, but with everything to succeed, and one that will bring even greater visibility both inside and outside the country: who here would ignore something so well-planned and produced, and who abroad wouldn't be inspired by it? It's difficult to see a rock/metal scene initiative like this anywhere in the world, so if it serves as inspiration for other "Wikimetal" outlets around the globe, it will be a significant contribution to the global rock and metal scene.

It's also necessary to mention the importance that the program as a whole has for the economic growth of the scene. This is because not only I, but several friends to whom I introduced Wikimetal, started consuming official material, attending shows more frequently, and promoting new or established bands that don't have recognized space in mainstream media. In short, the entire project greatly contributes to strengthening the national rock scene, and why not say internationally? This is because the podcast is the first to promote foreign bands that are practically unknown here, as was the case with Count's 77, Edge of Paradise, Living Dead Lights, and Of Mice And Men, just to name a few.
And what about the friendships that Wikimetal helps to create? We've met many people through the portal, some just through interacting in the site's comments, others in person at shows. The opportunity to meet other people who also live and breathe metal, and the feeling of unity that arises from these old and new friendships, is something very positive made possible by Wikimetal.
Finally, we all have gratitude for these 200 episodes. Thank you to the entire Wikimetal team, to everyone involved, responsible for this immense work that transcends barriers and values quality. This work only reinforces the idea that, together, we create a strong and lasting scene, as is rock and all our good music, regardless of style or genre. And bring on episode #300!
From the heart, for all Wikibrothers.
And for you, the reader, what has changed after discovering and following Wikimetal for 200 episodes?
