11 reasons to listen to "new" Heavy Metal bands
Mastodon – Despite having a completely original sound, you could say they're the Black Sabbath of 2012. Listen to their latest album, The Hunter , which is VERY good. For those who like heavy and dark melodies.
Godsmack – These guys are very successful in the US, which is the biggest market in the world; they're a band that's on the border between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Listen to their recently released live album in Brazil, Live & Inspired, recorded in Detroit. There's an edition with a bonus CD where they do several covers, from Metallica to Pink Floyd, which is really cool.
Lamb Of God – For those who like a heavy, hard-hitting album, the band's new album, Resolution, is one of the best of the year so far. They recently played an amazing show in São Paulo, they're energetic and play incredibly well live.
Disturbed – The Americans show that Metal is commercially viable; they sell a lot in the USA. If you like Metal with groove and drive, listen to the 2010 Asylum.
Machine Head – They are veterans but represent the most solid and competent band of the second generation of Thrash; the album Into the Locust is already a Metal classic and has already gone down in history.
Black Label Society – You can listen to any BLS album and any song and you won't be disappointed; my favorite is The Blessed Hellride . Their live show is amazing; they came to Brazil at the end of last year and are coming back again in November. Don't miss this show under any circumstances!
Killswitch Engage – If you like heavy metal with touches of classic metal, listen to this band. Their guttural vocals blend with clean vocals, and in the same song you might think you're listening to two completely different bands. 2012 marks the return of vocalist Jesse Leach after 10 years away from the band – Although I don't like the term Metalcore, they are the main representatives of the genre. Listen to Alive or Just Breathing from 2002.
Adrenaline Mob – The great drummer Mike Portnoy is in a fantastic band with Russell Allen (Symphony X) and Mike Orlando, mixing technique and heaviness with excellent riffs. In 2012, former Disturbed bassist John Moyer joined the band – if you haven't heard them, listen, even if you don't like Dream Theater (it actually has nothing to do with DT). Together for exactly one year, the guys have already released one EP and one excellent album, Omertà.
Halestorm – If you like Hard Rock, listen to Halestorm. Vocalist Izzy Hale makes it all worthwhile, and the band has songs with excellent melodies. She participated in Adrenalyne Mob's first CD, singing a cover of Duran Duran's "Come Undone." Listen to their 2012 , Strange Case Of…
Stone Sour – Even if you don't like Slipknot, listen to this band. Corey Taylor shows here that he's a great vocalist even without the mask. If you like well-crafted Hard Rock, listen to the band's second album, Come What(ever) May from 2006.
Ghost – One of the coolest bands around, they play a very dark and retro sound with 70s timbres and melodies. If you like old horror and suspense movies, you have to check these guys out; their identities are a mystery, and live they play in very devilish and sinister outfits. Phil Anselmo is a declared fan of the band. Where Black Sabbath meets King Diamond. Listen to the band's latest CD, the excellent Opus Eponymous.
