Hello friends!
Taking advantage of the article about the 100 essential live albums, and since videos were mentioned in the comments, and given that summer vacation is approaching, I decided to compile my list of 100 anthological videos that have been released in any available video format, from VHS to LD, DVD, or Blu-ray, which I recommend checking out. It's important to note that when there are no parenthetical remarks, it's because the video is available in DVD format, which we consider the standard. Those released only on VHS or LD are described with the relevant remarks. In some cases, I give preference to the DVD format and mention if it contains more than one official video and if there are extras or if the name has been modified for this media.
About 1/3 of the items I classified as essential in the list of live albums are repeated here, and the reason is simple: the video and its respective editing are worthy of a new nomination, deserving of a new mention. Similarly, some may find it strange that there are titles also available on DVD that were mentioned there and do not appear here, and there is a reason for this: the video editing is not consistent with the audio, hence they were excluded and/or surpassed by better ones, hence they were not included in this list.
Finally, the main criterion used was to include videos that offer a good sample of the band's shows or performances, not necessarily in their entirety, but where, in the case of a documentary or film, the performance plays a major role and is at least as important as the story. This is why Anvil's fantastic film was not included, as it contains little "live footage," which plays only a complementary role to the film. I also chose the same criteria for live albums: an incredible band performance, a video capturing the band at the peak of their careers, impeccable production—not only of the show itself, but also the care taken in editing and compiling a video that holds the audience's attention from beginning to end and is, above all, enjoyable to watch without interruption. Finally, special occasions and celebrations, among others, are also valid.
