10 extreme metal bands to discover and watch during Black September

The festival will take place between September 2nd and 4th at the Carioca Club in São Paulo.

One of the most important extreme metal festivals in the country, Setembro Negro , returns with a special edition between September 2nd and 4th at Carioca Club, in São Paulo.

The event, now in its 14th edition, will bring more than 30 extreme metal bands to the capital of São Paulo, and to help you be fully prepared for the festival, Wikimetal has selected 10 bands for you to discover, from national to international acts, some of whom will be coming to the country for the first time.

Tickets for Setembro Negro 2022 are now on sale at the Clube do Ingresso website . Prices range from R$250 to R$1,400 – the latter being a three-day pass for the VIP area.

DC Headhunter

The list needs to start with the guys from Bahia, Headhunter DC , who will be performing on Friday the 2nd, from 3:35 PM to 4:15 PM.

Formed in 1987 in Salvador, Bahia, Headhunter DC believes itself to be the representative of "death metal," being one of the pioneers of death metal in Brazil. Their lyrics focus on anti-religious themes, as well as exploring other subjects such as death, hatred, and suffering. 

Headhunter DC consists of Sérgio Baloff (vocals), Tony Assis (guitar), Danilo Coimbra (guitar), Stanley Serravalle (bass), and Daniel Brandão (drums).

Stab

Another band performing on Friday, the 2nd, is Facada . With a set scheduled from 2:35 PM to 3:15 PM, the grindcore group will bring their aggressive and direct sound to Carioca Club.

Formed in 2003 in Fortaleza, Ceará, Facada quickly stood out thanks to its aggressive and direct sound, mixing grind, crust, and death metal. Their lyrics address social problems and the conflicts of humanity.

Facada consists of James (vocals and bass), Ari Almeida (guitar), Danyel (guitar), and Wilker D'Angelo (drums).

Conan

Moving towards stoner rock, we have Conan , a group that mixes the subgenre with sludge and doom metal. The English band's performance will be on Friday the 2nd, from 5:35 PM to 6:20 PM, marking their first time in Brazil.

Conan was formed in 2006 in Liverpool, England, and stood out for its heavy sound and lyrics about battles, Vikings, and Norse mythology.

Conan's lineup features Jon Davis (guitar and vocals), Chris Fielding (bass and vocals), and Johnny King (drums).

Blood Red Throne

The Norwegian band Blood Red Throne returns to Brazil to play at the festival on Friday the 2nd, from 6:40 PM to 7:25 PM.

The quintet emerged in 1998 in Kristiansand, Norway, playing essentially 'old school' death metal, with drawn-out, extremely heavy parts, screamed vocals, and lyrics about murder, gore, and death.

Blood Red Throne is Yngve “Bolt” Christiansen (vocals), Død (guitar), Ivan Gujić (guitar), Stian Gundersen (bass) and Freddy Bolsø (drums).

Psycroptic

On Saturday, the 3rd, from 3:35 PM to 4:15 PM, it's Psycroptic . The Australians will be coming to Brazil for the first time in an exclusive performance for Setembro Negro.

Formed in 1999 in Australia, Psycroptic is known for its highly technical death metal, with lyrics that blend fantasy and everyday problems.

The lineup features Jason Peppiatt (vocals), Joe Haley (guitar), Todd Stern (bass), and David Haley (drums).

Weedeater

Another debut in Brazil, which will take place at the Setembro Negro festival, is Weedeater , one of the biggest sludge/doom/stoner bands today. The group will perform on Saturday the 3rd, from 5:35 PM to 6:20 PM.

Formed in 1995 in North Carolina, Weedeater quickly rose to prominence among bands in the genre. Their lyrics deal with marijuana, mental journeys, and the daily struggles of its members.

The Weedeater lineup consists of “Dixie” Dave Collins (vocals and bass), Dave “Shep” Shepherd (guitar), and Ramzi Ateyeh (drums).

Heathen

One of the legends of world thrash metal, Heathen will be at the 14th edition of Setembro Negro Fest. Their show takes place on Saturday the 3rd, from 7:45 PM to 8:35 PM. It will be Heathen's first time in Brazil.

Heathen was formed in 1984 in San Francisco, California, around the same time a flood of bands were emerging in the thrash metal scene there. They were active from 1984 to 1993. In 2001 the band returned, and they haven't stopped since.

The Heathen lineup features David R. White (vocals), Lee Altus (guitar), Kragen Lum (guitar), Jason Mirza (bass), and Jim DeMaria (drums).

Severe Miasma

The English band Grave Miasma will come to Brazil to present their black/death metal in an exclusive show on Sunday the 4th, from 4:35 PM to 5:15 PM.

Grave Miasma was formed in 2006 in London, England (from 2002 to 2006 the band already existed under the name Goat Molestör ), mixing black and death metal in its most brutal and aggressive form, with lyrics focused on occultism, darkness, and death.

The Grave Miasma lineup is Y (Yoni Ben-Haim) (guitar and vocals), b (Tom McKenna) (bass), and D (Dani Ben-Haim) (drums).

Skeletal Remain

The American band Skeletal Remains will play on Sunday the 4th, from 5:35 PM to 6:20 PM. It will be their first time in Brazil with an exclusive show for Setembro Negro (Black September).

Formed in 2011 in California, Skeletal Remains is one of the biggest names in death metal today. Their lyrics deal with violence, death, and gore themes – at the time of their first demo they were called Anthropophagy .

The Skeletal Remains lineup consists of Chris Monroy (guitar and vocals), Mike De La O (guitar), Brian Rush (bass), and Pierce Williams (drums).

Mork

The Norwegian band Mork will make their Brazilian debut at the festival on the 4th, from 6:40 PM to 7:25 PM.

Formed in 2004 in Halden, Viken, Norway, Mork plays harsh black metal with lyrics about Satanism, occultism, paganism, and Norwegian legends – sung in their native language.

Mork is what they call a one-man band , since it's formed by the creative mind of Thomas Eriksen , who usually records everything on the band's albums – in live performances he sings and plays guitar. In live shows, Mork also features musicians Alex Bruun (guitar), Rob (bass), and Asgeir Mickelson (drums).
