10 extreme metal bands to discover and watch during Black September – part 2

The festival will take place between September 2nd and 4th at the Carioca Club in São Paulo.

One of the most important extreme metal festivals in the country, Setembro Negro , returns with a special edition between September 2nd and 4th at Carioca Club, in São Paulo.

The event, now in its 14th edition, will bring more than 30 extreme metal bands to São Paulo, and to help you be fully prepared for the festival, Wikimetal has selected 10 bands for you to discover, from national to international acts, some of whom will be performing in the country for the first time. Tickets for Setembro Negro 2022 are now on sale at the Clube do Ingresso website . Prices range from R$250 to R$1,400 – the latter being a three-day pass for the VIP area.

Malefactor

The Bahian band Malefactor will perform at the 14th edition of Setembro Negro on Friday, the 2nd, from 12:50 to 13:20.

Malefactor was formed in 1991 in Salvador, Bahia, playing melodic death metal with satanic themes, medieval stories, and occultism. Their most recent release is the highly praised Sixth Legion (2017).

The band consists of Lord Vlad (vocals and bass), Danilo Coimbra (guitar), Jafet Amoêdo (guitar), and Daniel Falcão (drums).

Harakiri For The Sky

Harakiri For The Sky , one of the biggest names in post-black metal today, will perform for the first time in Brazil, in an exclusive show for the festival. They will play on Friday the 2nd, from 7:45 PM to 8:35 PM.

Formed in 2011 in Vienna, Austria, Harakiri For The Sky quickly distinguished itself within what has become known as post-black metal . Their lyrics deal with mental health.

Harakiri For The Sky consists of JJ (vocals) and MS (all instruments) – live they are also joined by Thomas Dornig (bass), Marrok (guitar) and Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (drums).

Havok 666

Havok 666 is one of the representatives of national metal at the 14th edition of the Setembro Negro Festival. Their show takes place on Saturday the 3rd, from 12:00 to 12:30.

The group was formed in Salto, São Paulo, in 2004, and the band's aim is to play extreme death metal. The lyrics focus on themes such as chaos, anti-religion, and evil.

The band consists of Andre Brutaller (guitar and vocals) and Felipe Wrecker (drums) – on the albums, André plays bass. They perform live without a bassist.

Knife

The band Knife will perform on Saturday the 3rd, at 1:40 PM, at the 14th edition of Setembro Negro.

Knife was formed in Marburg, Germany in 2019, and the following year released the EP Locked In . Last year they released their first studio album, the self-titled one, containing 12 songs, with the aforementioned mix of speed metal and punk, in addition to their satanic lyrics.

The Knife lineup features Vince Nihil (vocals), Laz (guitar), Gypsy Danger (bass), and Ferli Thielmann (drums).

Gatecreeper

The American band Gatecreeper will perform on Saturday the 3rd, from 2:35 PM to 3:15 PM.

Gatecreeper was formed in 2013 in Arizona, playing death metal hardcore elements , which gives them a very particular sound.

The Gatecreeper lineup features Chase H. Mason (vocals), Israel Garza (guitar), Eric Wagner (guitar), Sean Mears (bass), and Metal Matt (drums).

Violence

The band Vio-lence will perform on Saturday the 3rd, from 8:55 PM to 9:55 PM.

Vio-lence was formed in 1985 in San Francisco, California, but gained prominence in what is called the "second wave of thrash," alongside bands like Forbidden , Dark Angel, Sacred Reich , and others. They quickly stood out for their visceral thrash metal, with lyrics about violence, death, social problems, and plenty of sarcasm.

The Vio-lence lineup features Sean Killian (vocals), Phil Demmel (guitar, ex- Machine Head ), Christian Olde Wolbers (bass, ex-Fear Factory), Perry Strickland (drums), and Bobby Gustafson (guitar).

Rot

Rot , one of the legends of national grindcore, with over 30 years on the road, will perform at the 14th edition of the Setembro Negro Festival on Sunday the 4th, from 1:40 PM to 2:15 PM.

Rot was formed in 1990 in the city of São Paulo, playing grindcore with lyrics about social problems, personal experiences, hatred, and against all forms of oppression.

The current Rot lineup consists of Henrick (vocals), Mendigo (guitar), Diego (bass, ex-Cruel Face), and Emiliano (drums).

Soulburn

The Dutch band Soulburn will be coming to Brazil for the first time to play at the festival on Sunday the 4th, from 3:35 PM to 4:15 PM.

Soulburn's blend of death/black/doom metal, and their lyrics about death, demons, and battles, translate into something quite heavy and dark.

The band's lineup features Twan van Geel (vocals and bass, and also a member of Legion Of The Damned ), Eric Daniels (guitar, ex- Asphyx ), Remco Kreft (guitar), and Marc Verhaar (drums).

Tribulation

The Swedish band Tribulation will be coming to Brazil for the first time and will perform at the 14th edition of the Setembro Negro Festival. Their show will take place on Sunday the 4th, from 7:45 PM to 8:35 PM. It will be an exclusive show in South America.

The band was formed in 2004, initially leaning towards death metal, but over the years they've shifted their focus to gothic metal, creating a rather dark and distinctive sound – in fact, the band's embryonic form existed from 2001 to 2004, when they were still called Hazard . Tribulation's lyrics deal with themes of terror and death.

The Tribulation lineup features Johannes Andersson (bass and vocals), Adam Zaars (guitar), Joseph Tholl (guitar), and Oscar Leander (drums).

Diamond Head

Legendary NWOBHM band Diamond Head will perform in Brazil for the first time with an exclusive show for the Setembro Negro 2022 festival. The band will perform on Sunday the 4th, from 8:55 PM to 9:55 PM.

Diamond Head was formed in 1976 in England and is one of the first bands to be part of the "NWOBHM" movement, which also spawned other important names like Iron Maiden . Their debut album, Lightning to the Nations (1980), is one of the most influential albums of the genre.

The Diamond Head lineup features Brian Tatler (guitar), Rasmus Bom Andersen (vocals), Andy “Abbz” Abberley (guitar), Dean Ashton (bass), and Karl Wilcox (drums).
