Lead singer says new album is different
In an interview with Loudwire, Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows spoke about the sound of the 2013 album "Hail To The King," saying it sounded like Metallica:
“I’m happy that we can show something that Metallica won’t show; they’ll do their own thing. Instead of last time, when our album was a little too close to Metallica, I’m happy that people will be able to hear a whole other spectrum of music, and it all sounds quite different.”.
Regarding releasing a new album so close to Metallica's release, Shadows commented: “I think there’s something really cool about that. You know, a new band coming out and testing the limits, and Metallica is a legendary band that’s obviously going to release an amazing album. So for me it’s just great. I think it’s great for Metal fans, I wish I was 15 again to enjoy it.”
